|
Severe road congestion is a growing threat to our economic future and quality of life.
-
Congestion has been getting far worse over the last decade. Our region has 5.5 times more travel delays than it did 20 years ago.
-
It is a particular threat to us, as we depend on mobility for our economic prosperity as America’s Transportation Hub.
-
All those trucks sitting on the expressways in a traffic jam and deteriorating rail systems with conflicts between passenger and freight trains mean lower profits and ultimately fewer jobs for the businesses that depend on free flowing transportation.
-
Companies across the region are forced to open warehouses in outlying areas to avoid congested areas, to pay expensive overtime to workers stuck in traffic, and must pay the expensive hidden costs of unpredictability.
-
It’s a direct threat to our competitive advantage.
