  • These numbers are for 2003—when gas was much cheaper than it is today!

  • 253 million hours and 151 million gallons of fuel are wasted sitting in traffic jams.

  • Over 2.5 million people in our region drive to work by themselves every day putting additional strain on our already congested highway system.

  • According to the United States Department of Transportation, each person traveling during peak hours in northeastern Illinois paid an average of $976 in wasted time and fuel from road congestion. That's a "bad traffic" cost of almost $1,000 per peak time driver.
